Session 77: Prophecy

Prophecy, how important a foundation to lay as we go into the next few weeks, and the understanding of Christ return and the end of time. If your student does not believe in prophecy, they have no reason to believe anything you say about the return of Christ. For instance, they can just as easily believe the world will end Dec 21, 2012. (click on lesson title and it will take you to an article on the Mayan Calendar) Biblical Prophecy plays two roles: 1. Foretells the future. 2. Explains the positive or negative results of future events. What about some of the Prophecy we hear today? Is the Cannon of scripture closed? Can a prophet rise up today with a new word from God? What of these denominations that have people that claim to be a Prophet, are they like the Prophets of old? Can you show me some OT prophecy that has been fulfilled?

I remember in the 80’s (I think about 84) there was a book out that predicted the rapture would take place that year. I remember mainly because several of my unsaved/unchurched friends became scared and some of them started visiting with me at church. They really believed that this was going to happen –if I remember correctly the planets would be in line and that is when it was supposed to happen. Shortly after that date passed they of course went back to their old ways. My group of friends at the time were between 11-13 (which happens to be the same age group I am teaching now in Sunday school). It is amazing how people can be fooled so easily. I can understand how. Without having Christian parents to guide you and a Church family behind you it would be easy to persuade a youth or for that matter anyone who doesn’t know the Bible to believe just about anything. I thank God that I had a mother that drug me to church every time the doors were open.

Sorry this is in late; I have two sick children with ear infections. Garrison is much better, but Grace’s infection has moved to the ear canal. Please keep them in your prayers.
Prophecy- I agree Crystal, it is amazing that people can believe in just about anything- if they don’t know the Bible; furthermore, more surprising are Christians that can become confused and entertain prophecy simply because they don’t know what the Bible has to say . God never contradicts Himself, and God’s character is not inconsistent.

Crystal, I don't mean to butt in on the youth blog but if I remember correctly, the book you are referring to was in 1988 and titled something to the affect of
" 88 reasons the world will end in '88". I'm not 100% sure of this but I believe that is right.
