Session 89:The New Age Movement
The New Age Belief is composed of a diversity of beliefs and practices. A fundamental belief of the New Age Movement is pantheism. (all is God) God is not the personal being worshipped by Christians but an impersonal energy, power, or consciousness that emanated itself into the universe. The Bible denies teaching of pantheism and affirms that God is not impersonal but personal (1Tim 4:10). They also have adopted the Hindu teaching called monism(all is one). Monism and pantheism go hand in hand, for if everything is God, then logically, everything must be one. Thirdly, they believe humans are divine. The Bible teaches that we are made in God's image, but we are not divine. Fourthly, morality is relative. We believe in an absolute truth. Next, Jesus was only a great teacher. We believe Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life. He is the only Christ. Point six: Oneness with all is achieved through reincarnation. I guess they keep score like golf: the least amount of lives you live, the better person you are. Achieve oneness in only one life is almost impossible. We believe we are to die once (Heb 9:27) and after that to face judgment. Next, a new age of enlightenment is coming. We are not awaiting the evolution of the human race but the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. New agers envision a universal religion. They do not however put an emphasis on corporate worship. New age practices lead to higher consciousness. Techniques such as yoga, Eastern meditation, past life regression, trance channelling, crystals, and various occult activities are used. As you can see, I hit the highlights of the lesson. What interesting point can you share with the rest of us this week that we can use to teach our kids?
