Session 9: Jacob and Esau

Another great OT story will be studied in Sunday School this week. During revival, Bro. Mike was able to bring the story of Esau and Jacob to life for each of us. With that fresh on your mind, this should be a great and exciting lesson to teach. As the story unfolds, we see that many people are willing to "cheat" on just about anything. Here is the question: "What are people willing to trade to get what they want?" Many people are willing to deny Christ for money. Many are willing to deny their marriage for pleasure. Many are willing to deny their friends just for a promotion. Over and over again we see that no matter what the sin may be, there will be consequences. Think about the message at revival and remember all the things Bro. Mike mentioned about Jacob. He had to leave many things in Shechem before his return to Bethel. Thankfully, our Father is there with open arms to accept us when we stray from Him. What did you learn from the study this week?

Also, be praying for Heather McDaniel as she will be having some wisdom teeth removed this week. Be at Sunday School this week to see what our challenge for the month will be!

You guys ever wondered whether God couldn't find any better people to do His work? Or.....could it be that He uses imperfect people to grow them, and accomplish His will at the same time. I was reminded of three things.....

#1 God sure is smart
#2 I still got growing to do
#3 In spite of myself, God can still use even me.

We know that many people cheat to get where they are and don't care who they hurt. As Christian's I want to believe that we treat each other with Christ like love. We need to be reminded of this story and to remember that He already has
a plan for us and that we should let Him guide us into it. Not see how many we can knock down along the way.

I think we should leave a better example than a lot of the OT Patriarchs. Why? We have something they did not. The Holy Spirit living inside of us. I can develop that into a sermon if you need me to Billy.

I have a book by Dr. Goldblatt, "In Search of the Scriptures" he was the chair of endocrinology at Mercer University. His premise is that Esau may have been diabetic and that is why he needed the lental stew which is high in proteins and widely used in the middle east for drops in blood sugar. Kinda explains Esau, but makes Jacobs treachery even worse. Your brother is near death and you with hold life?!
