These Old Testament stories have really been a good refresher over the past several weeks. I am excited as to how much our youth have been able to learn about all of these interesting topics we have covered. This week we take on Moses and the Burning Bush. Now, just for clarification, Burning is NOT one of George W.'s brothers. A little smile does the body good! This is an amazing story of another one of the many miracles in the Bible. God spoke to Moses and I wonder what He will speak to us about as we study this lesson? Will you please share with us what you learned.
About the outing: It seems the topic of interest is a cruise. Before John even starts the early stages of planning, let me say a word about this. I hope each of you will participate, but I know that the planning may not fit the schedule of everyone. He is going to try and plan so everyone can attend, but with a group of seven plus couples, it is almost impossible to make everyone happy. We want to do the best we can in planning this event. Express your feeling to John and he will do a great and awesome job in the planning. I appreciate each of you from the bottom of my heart.
Also, if you have not signed up for Harvest Fest, please let Crystal Lastinger know if you can help. She is short quiet a few workers and needs out help. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the laugh.
I now know one of the reason I'm not in a hurry to blog. I study in small increments and am not fully studied up until about Thurs but now if you were to review I can blog earlier. I'm not much of a help for someone because it takes me about 5 to 6 hrs to bring it all together. (I'm slow at absorbing. lol) But I do love knowing that the blog it there to go to. Sooooo, I say all this to say,....I'll be back when I know more!
This week as I read the book of Exodus, several things came to my attention. I know this scripture was not in our lesson but while we have been going threw Genesis threw Revelations I have been filling them in (on the scripture that our lesson doesn’t cover) so that we actually cover the whole Bible. I can’t wait until we reach the New Testament and see them reference the New Testament back to Old Testament scriptures.
Anyway in Exodus 1:6 we see how God picks back with Joseph line. (God told Abraham that his descendants could not receive the land of Canaan for 400 years- until the sin of the Canaanites had come to its full fruition (Gen. 15:13-16) Even in Egypt God’s promises were at work and the descendants of aged Abraham and barren Sarah multiplied greatly as God had said in (Gen15:5) because God blessed them. (Ps105:24)
In Exodus 1 the King of Egypt allows fear to make his decions for him. He was afraid the Israelites being so many would take over the Egyptians thus enslaving them. This chapter established a need for rescue. Keeping in my God had this set up for His divine plan.
Chapter 2 picks up describing the preparation of Moses who is the rescuer. Sometimes we wonder why God allows things to happen like why allowing all the boy babies to be killed (God had his hand in that as well because many were spared), but God used this to ensure that the Moses would be trained (2:10). He was trained in the palace of military skills and leadership skills. At age 40 Moses kills an Egyptian and flees to Midian where he learned to become a shepherd.
(time to pick up children blog back later)
#1 The burning bush was a picture of God. It revealed His power and glory for Moses to see. He needed a reminder of who God is before being commissioned to do the humanly impossibe.
#2 The burning bush symbolizes the nation of Israel walking through the fire without being consumed. Israel continues to endure the fire of affliction as multiple nations have tried to eradicate them, over the years, without success.
#3 The burning bush is an illustration of the humble servant Moses. Moses found himself bowed before the awesome wonder of the Almighty God. With shoes off, unable to look upon His glory, Moses truly experienced humility. Christian service begans with humility. God used Moses to walk in power after he experienced humility.
Alright everyone! Just to catch everybody up.....We corporately decided, and most of us agree that we (youth SS teachers) should plan a cruise. I will graciously accept the task of organizing this. Not planning......... but organizing. This process will be handled as democratically as possible (Of the youth teachers, by the youth teachers, and for the youth teachers). With that being said, I've already enlisted the help of Joyce. She will generate a survey/questionaire in order to realize each teacher's preferences, regarding issues such as date, destination, etc. As soon as I receive your input we can continue. Please take time to pray, research, brainstorm, and pray until then. God Bless!
I like the "excuses" page that came with the lesson. How many times do we make excuses for our sin, our unwillingness to help others, etc, etc. Moses was full of excuses that God did not accept. I have been reading Ephesians for the past two weeks and cannot get past chapter 4. I read it over and over and learn something new each time. God calls us to be mature, let go of the past and grow up. He was asking the same of Moses I think. Moses had come to a very difficult place in his walk with God - God was asking him to step out of his comfort zone and move forward. This really parallels with Ephesians 4!
The cruise sounds great! Thanks, John and Joyce for organizing!
I think the excuses page in the lesson was great. I also noticed the quote on the beginning of the DVD for this week’s lesson said God would never send you on a journey without equipping you for the trip. I have been in a very difficult situation this week with work dealing with people who are feuding on something so childish and have been trying to be a peacemaker. One person has been especially spiteful and it has been very hard for me to deal with. God gave me the words on the phone to say. I pray that things will be better next week. I like Moses am not a good speaker but I am learning that with God, I can make a difference.
Please pray for Ella. She has the flu. I can’t wait for the cruise. I am in desperate need of a vacation.
