Session 15: The Ten Commandments

This is by far my favorite lesson in Fuel. This is my favorite video of all the lessons we have had. There is a lot of material and only a short time to get it all done. Don't take this lesson for granted. You may think that you can just "wing it" so to speak since this is a very known topic. Let me encourage you to dig deep this week. Remember: If you know a lot about the topic, so does your students. You will need to dig deep in order to keep them interested in the lesson. You guys are the greatest. Keep up the good work and don't forget about the workers meeting at 4:30 this Sunday. Happy Blogging!!!!!

This is a perfect opportunity to witness to your class;
Have you ever told a lie? What does that make you? Rhymes with fire.

Ever stolen anything? No matter the value.

Has God always been # 1 in your life?

Have you ever dishonored you parents? See the first 2.

If you stand before God today would He find you innocent or guilty? If guilty would you go to heaven or hell? If hell, does that bother you?

That's the 10 Commandments. It was given to show we can not keep God's standards. It points the way to the Good News. Remember, Jesus got here and ramped it up in Matt 5. You've heard it said thou shalt not commit adultery, I say if you look with lust. See it is not just our actions, but our thought life. Thank you can keep that standard.

Man I love the 10 commandments. It is a constant reminder of how wretched I am, and how much I need a Savior. Give them the bad news, then the Good news(gospel) Without the bad they will have no need for a physician.

Someone has tabulated that we have 35 million laws on the books to enforce the Ten Commandments. No wonder we need legal advisors. No topic has been more misunderstood among Christians than the Law of Moses and how it applies to the believer today. The believer is wise to examine the Word to determine the place and purpose of the whole Mosaic system. The Law was given to reveal God’s glory, reveal man’s sinfulness, and gives us a standard for godly living. Paul, you summed it best, when you said that the Law was given to show “we can not keep God’s standards”. You’re right, and that’s the bad news. That is exactly why the Law was given. The Law does not make anything perfect, does not justify sin, does not make us righteous, does not give peace to the heart, and does not give life. The Ten Commandments are a great tool for witnessing and should always point to Christ. Christ was made under the Law and fulfilled the Law in every respect. His Person and work are seen in the law. He is the end of the Law for righteousness to the believer. He paid the penalty of the Law and bore the curse of the Law on the cross. That’s the good news.

This lesson on the surface seems so simple yet is so complex. I have been reading this week in Psalms and it is amazing how the lesson and the prayers of David have matched up to our lesson.
