Jesus Heals a Paralytic

Mark 2:1-12 is this weeks lesson. We've read or heard the story 100's of times, but when I read the 1st paragraph column 2, 1st page of "Background for the Bible Passage" WOW! Let me quote it for you; "Though we believe Jesus can change a person's life do our actions support that belief?" I would love to continue and try to give you some insight into this lesson, but I'm stopping right there.

Could not help but think that just maybe that paralytic was ok were he was in life. Hey I was born like this and I’m going to die like this. Maybe he thought this is all life has to offer. Wonder how a paralytic makes friendship with four men that work all day or maybe have families that demand a lot of their time or even enjoy fishing after a long hard day of working. Never the less they were very close indeed. What kind of men give so much to another human, I mean they give their time (they carried him to the house, lift him up,tear hole in roof) they are willing to give their money (someone’s got to pay for the roof or at lease be willing to) they were even willing to give their pride (willing to be mocked by the crowd). I know they were followers of Jesus and they knew Jesus could heal their paralytic friend. What compassion, can you imagine the conversations they had among themselves on the way their, what about on the way back?!
Sometimes were so quick to judge someone on were they are in life, even if they are hopeless. What about the roof? I know it seems like I’m going off the deep end here but what about the roof? Did they all come together (the church since that is what seems to be at the house?) to fix the roof or grumbling over who’s going to fix it. I’m praying this week that God would make me more like those four men. Heard a song on the way back home this morning that said something like “don’t tell someone you’re going to pray for them until you show them you love them” which really kind of perplexed me. I get it now. Anyway theses are my thoughts not in any order on the lesson this week.

Good point Heather. I think the lesson this week illustrates an often overlooked miracle. Jesus certainly healed the paralytic, but He also saved him....first even. Our focus is often drawn to the physical and visible miracle, while the miracle of regeneration that takes place in the invisible spiritual realm is overlooked and often forgotten. I'm not saying we give undue credit to the miracle of healing. I'm am saying we don't give due credit to the miracle of rebirth. I mean the healing miracle is only temporary. It's good till death or before, while the salvation miracle is forever. Over 2000 years later Jesus continues to perform these miracles. Hey, just last Tuesday night at SFBC, Jesus Christ performed a miracle for two young men. He gave both eternal life! The greatest gift they could receive. Neither deserves it, And, they get it forever. WOW!!!! What greater miracle could we have witnessed?
